When scheduling your first exercise time at the MTC, you must sign up to be in the Gym (S3) for a required orientation (please use the link below).
General Rules
Place personal belongings in cubbies and only bring necessary items
Remove all jewelry: rings, bracelets, earrings, and necklaces (rubber, fabric, and hair ties included)
Always have a companion in the same facility
Do not arrive early and only attend the gym time you have scheduled
No exercise time on the day before you leave the MTC
Keep the rules of the specific facility you attend

Activity Field (weather permitting)
Location: Find the MTC Activity Field across the street from the MTC towards the Provo Temple.
Hours:
Mon, Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat from 6:40 am to 8:50 pm
Tuesday from 6:40 am to 3:45 pm
Please check the Open/Close sign (pictured below) at the front pedestrian security booth for up-to-date information. Typically, the MTC Activity Field is open between mid-April to mid-November, weather permitting.

Activity Field Rules
There are no visitors allowed to the field
Use the crosswalk
Closed-toed shoes required at all times except on the sand volley ball pit
No cleats are allowed, no football or rugby, no ultimate frisbee
At the field, gym time ends five minutes early to allow for travel time back to the MTC campus
Stay on the lower field even while running, elders and sister cannot jog alone together
In soccer, elders and sisters cannot play together
Check out equipment from the gym staff at the fieldhouse

Basketball:
2-on-2 or 3-on-3 only, elders guard elders, sisters guard sisters
Call your own fouls
Play to 7, cap at 11
Shoot free throws for teams, new players shoot first, no king of the court
Dunking is never allowed in the gym
Replace the balls that are not being used into the metal cage
No diving, stay on your feet
Volleyball:
The games go to 11 and follow rally rules, every serve scores.
Maximum of 6 players per team, two new teams enter court at the end of the game, no king of the court
Do not touch or pull on the net
Please do not spike the volleyballs directly into the walls
No diving, stay on your feet
Soccer is not allowed in the gym at all
In four square, no diving, stay on your feet
Fitness Center
Location: S2 Basement (Go down the stairs by the ATM in the main lobby).

Athletic Training and Therapy
We have a Certified Athletic Trainer available during all gym times. They are prepared to address all medical situations in the gym and provide outstanding rehabilitative therapy, when needed. Please speak with them about any pre-existing conditions or issues that may arise from your daily exercise.
Frequently Asked Questions
When can I use the exercise facilities?
You will schedule one gym time a day at any available facility (Gym in S3, the Fitness Center in S2, or the MTC Activity Field, weather permitting). You should not arrive early or at a time other than the time that you've scheduled.
You may schedule one additional hour of exercise time on your preparation day.
You should not schedule exercise time on the day before you leave the MTC to prevent possible injuries prior to departure.
What should I wear to exercise?
Exercise attire should meet the standards stated in the Missionary Handbook and should "maintain a high standard of modesty." Wear clothing that:
Is neither too loose or too tight
Is not transparent or revealing in any way, such as sheer, tight, or stretch fabrics
Does not draw attention to any part of the body
Covers garments at all times
Please wear:
Shoes. Closed-toe shoes must be worn when participating in exercise activities.
Please do NOT wear:
Name Tag. While you should wear your name tag to and from the exercise facilities, you should take it off while exercising.
Jewelry. For your safety and the safety of others, all jewelry (including rubber/string bracelets and necklaces) must be removed before participating in exercise activities. Only medical condition identifiers may be worn during exercise.
Headwear. Baseball style hats and factory made headbands are allowed, however, no other headwear is appropriate. This includes items such as bandanas, berets, knit hats, beanies, etc.
Why are there so many rules in the exercise facilities?
Rules are established by leaders and the MTC administration to ensure your safety, to help you be as successful as possible, and to wisely manage the large numbers of missionaries using the facilities.
How do I report an injury?
We do everything we can to minimize the chance of injury; however, if you or another missionary sustains an injury, regardless of how minor it might be, please report it immediately to the exercise facility staff on duty. We always have a Certified Athletic Trainer available during gym times to handle all emergency situations and to evaluate any injuries. We also provide rehabilitative therapy during limited hours.
If you have pre-existing conditions such as asthma, diabetes, etc., please make the athletic training staff aware, so they can be ready for any emergencies that may arise.
Can I use my own sports equipment during exercise time?
Although you cannot use personal equipment, you may see an exercise facility staff member to check out equipment. All the equipment for approved activities will be provided for you during your time at the MTC.
