Music Audition Guidelines
Hymns and hymn arrangements including Children’s Songbook are recommended. (Not EFY)
Please do not share your music in a "Pop" or theatrical style.
Remember that music in MTC meetings should not draw attention to itself or be for demonstration. This music is for worship, not performance. All that we offer musically is to praise the Savior and glorify Him.
Please arrange for your own accompanist. If you are unable to find your own accompanist, the music library may be able to help you.
If you have had experience accompanying and would like to do so, please sign up in the music library.
Vocalists may not be their own accompanist.
YOUR MUSICAL NUMBER MUST BE UNDER 4 1/2 MINUTES.
Vocalists should memorize their piece. Instrumentalists and accompanists need not memorize.
All performers associated with your piece must attend the audition.
Dress in appropriate missionary attire for auditions.
Please be "Performance Ready" when you come to audition.
Please arrive and sign in 5-10 minutes (S-1 B126) before audition time.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do if I have class during auditions?
Inform your teacher and request and excuse from class for the short time it required for an audition.
If I receive permission from my mission president to bring my musical instrument to my mission, where should I store it?
You can store it under your bed. There are also limited spaces available if you prefer to store it in the music library for safe keeping. You are not allowed to play musical instruments in the residence halls.
Do I have to audition for the MTC choir?
No. Everyone is invited to participate in the choir. Singing in the MTC choir with director Cory Mendenhall is an extraordinary experience and is a highlight of the MTC.
“Worthy music is powerful,” says President Russell M. Nelson. “It has the power to make us humble, prayerful, and grateful. … Music has power to provide spiritual nourishment. It has healing power. It has the power to facilitate worship … It provides power for us to express prayerful thoughts and bear testimony of sacred truths.”
