Please check your itinerary to see how many bags are included in your ticket.
If it shows 0 pieces-this means you will need to pay for all your checked in bags.
If it is shows 1 piece-this means only one checked bag has been prepaid and you will need to pay for your 2nd bag (that’s if you have another bag).
If it shows 2 pieces-this means both your checked bags are included in your ticket and you do not need to pay for these bags.
The Airlines only accept credit or debit cards, no cash payments
Please ensure you have sufficient funds on your card, save your receipt; your mission will reimburse you.
Please Note
Your checked bags must weigh 50 lbs each.
You will be responsible for any overweight luggage fees; these fees cannot be reimbursed.
You may travel with one carry on bag and a personal item
You can weigh your luggage on the scales in your residence, or on the scale located under the stairs in the North East corner of the Gym in S3.
Visa Information
For international missionaries, your visas are processed at church headquarters in Salt Lake City, UT. We unfortunately do not have updates on your visa status. If you have paperwork that needs to be turned in, we can help you to submit it. Remember, no news is good news. If there is a problem with your visa, then you will be contacted.
Itineraries
You should receive an itinerary via email the Wed/Thurs the week before you depart. If you depart in less than a week and have not received an itinerary, please come see us. Your itinerary includes a report time on the day of your departure. Please make sure to show up at the Travel Office with all of your luggage at that report time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get an update on my visa?
Generally, no news is good news. Due to the immense number of visas that the travel agents in Salt Lake have to process, it is not feasible for them to offer updates on the status of individual visas. If there are exceptions or if there is something that your travel agent needs from a missionary, the travel office at the MTC will contact the missionary via email.
When am I leaving?
You will be emailed an itinerary for travel to your mission about ten days prior to your departure.
Is my visa good to go or will I need to have a temporary assignment?
See FAQ #1. Once again, because of the number of visas the travel agents in Salt Lake have to process, we have the following system in place: Since we anticipate that your visa will arrive on time, you will receive an itinerary 10 days prior to your departure. This itinerary will show flights to your original mission. However, this is not a “for sure” guarantee that visas will arrive. Accordingly, if needed, a temporary assignment will be officially issued the Thursday or Friday prior to departure. If a temporary assignment is issued, you will receive an email to come down to the MTC Travel Office to pick up your itinerary. If you do not receive a temporary assignment, you should use the itinerary you originally received.
I got an email from my stake president informing me I have been temporarily reassigned OR my missionary portal changed missions. Is this real?
You have a wonderful stake president! However, this does not necessarily mean that you have been reassigned. Official reassignments are issued from the MTC Travel Office. You should check your email on Thursday or Friday prior to your departure to see if you have received a request to come down to the MTC Travel office to pick up a new itinerary.
How long will I serve in my temporarily assigned mission?
If you have received a temporary reassignment, you would most likely serve one full transfer in your temporarily assigned mission, since the temporarily assigned mission is on the same transfer cycle as your original mission. For more information missionary assignments, see Elder Bednar's talk from April 2017 entitled Called to the Work.
When do I get my boarding pass?
When you arrive at the airport, check in at the kiosk with your ID to print your boarding pass or you can receive your boarding pass when you check your luggage in at your airline counter.
Why do I have a return ticket?
If your itinerary shows a final flight segment exiting your mission country a few weeks after your arrival, please disregard this information. This flight is called an 'open-return' and is for visa purposes only.
